Our stated principles

Animal Welfare Principles

These principles describe the standard of care we believe responsible ostrich breeding should meet.

  1. 01

    Principles

    • Animals are provided with appropriate feed and constant access to clean water.
    • Housing offers sufficient space, shelter and dry, safe ground.
    • Birds are observed daily and signs of illness or injury are acted on promptly.
    • Veterinary advice is sought from qualified professionals.
    • Handling is calm and performed by trained people.
    • Transport and slaughter follow applicable legal requirements.
    • Biosecurity measures protect the flock and neighbouring farms.
    • Practices are reviewed as knowledge and regulation evolve.
  2. 02

    Not veterinary advice

These principles are not a substitute for professional veterinary advice or for legal obligations set by the competent authorities.
